Thousands of people across Alabama will receive free clothing, accessories and other items from the state’s Department of Health as part of the effort to combat the coronavirus outbreak.
Alabamian Health Director Jeff Strom said the state has set up an online shopping centre to help people with limited budgets.
People can get free or discounted items on a first come, first served basis, and if the item is sold out, they will have to go back to the department for a second chance, Strom told the Associated Press news agency.
The gift will be distributed to households with incomes up to $20,000.
The department has also started providing free flu shots to those with low incomes, with the first 100 people to sign up to receive a shot in January getting a free shot.
In addition to the free clothing and accessories, people can also get discounts on household items like appliances and clothes.
